Blogging Assignment #3: Photo Story

There are a variety of different types of blogs in the world:

  • Personal blogs – This is an ongoing diary or commentary by an individual.  It is the traditional and most common type of blog
  • Corporate and organizational blogs – these are used primarily for marketing, branding or public relations by companies or organizations
  • By genre – These blogs focus on a particular subject such as politics, fashion, travel, or educational
  • Picture/photo blogs – these are unqiue because, often,  they contain no words, just pictures
In this week’s blogging assignment you will be introduced to picture/photo blogs.  You will see a sample photo story, and be given the opportunity to develop your own.  This is my photo story.  Follow along, and pay attention to the explanation after the pictures.

Changing A Flat

This is my photo story about patching the inner-tube of my front tire.  Changing a flat is relatively easy once you have practiced a few times.  Firstly, remove the front wheel from the bicycle.  Use a tire-iron if necessary to take the tire and the tube off the rim.  Next, locate the hole in the tube by submerging the tube in water and look for the stream of bubbles.  Once the hole has been identified, rub the surrounding area with sandpaper to create a surface for the glue to adhere. Then, select a patch that will easily cover the hole.  Apply some glue to cover the underside of the patch.  Place the patch on the tube and press down until the patch sticks to the tube.  It may be necessary to add more glue if the patch does not stick to the tube.  Once the patch is in place, apply pressure to the patch for three minutes.  If the patch looks like it might peel off, add more glue and reapply pressure for a further three minutes.  Let the glue dry for an additional five minutes.  The tube should now be ready to inflate.  Place the tube inside the tire, and pull one side of the tire on the rim.  Next, slowly pull the other side of the tire onto the rim taking care not to trap the delicate tube between the rim and tire causing a hole.  Once both sides of the tire are on the rim inflate the tire to the correct pressure, usually 40 psi for an off-road mountain bike.  Lastly, place the wheel back onto the bicycle taking care to close the quick release level.
