We Are Silent 2013

 Why Go Silent?

  • 215 million children are forced to work as child labourers and are denied the right to attend school.  One in every three children in developing countries is malnourished. One billion children are deprived of essential services like food, water, education, or health care.

For those of you who have chosen to participate in this year’s vow of silence to create awareness around the issue of Children’s Rights, my hope is that you’ll all remember this day and always be advocates for those less fortunate than yourselves. Silence is powerful!  Silence can aslo be awkward and uncomfortable for many people, and it’s these uncomfortable feelings we want to tap into to.  We want people  to look at you, to look at the t-shirts and slogans you are wearing, to question you, and most importantly we want them to wonder.  We want them to see that you care so deeply about Children’s Rights that you’re not afraid to show it.  You see, We Are Silent is about showing the world that children and youth also care about Children’s Rights, not just adults, and what children and youth have to say on the issue is important and their voices must be heard!  Your voice must be heard!  On Thursday April, 18th your silence is your voice, and it will loud enough that world leaders will have no opinion but to listen to you.

The Chilliwack Times newspaper wrote this article about on Tuesday.  I hope it will serve to inspire you to meet your goal.

  1. Every child has a right to these three particular rights. Firstly, every child has the right to an education. It is important to me because I think all children around the world deserves an education, to get a job and to support for their family, in the future. Secondly, every child has the right to live and grow. Children around the world don’t get to live and grow because they have to go to war and don’t get to grow because they don’t have the nutrients to grow. Lastly, every child has the right to healthy food. I think every child needs healthy food because they need the nutrients to grow. Did you know, in Africa, girls do not get an education because they have to work all day for their families. I feel miffed that girls don’t get to go to school because I really enjoy school!

  2. All children’s rights are important, but in my opinion, three stand out the most. The first one is all children have the right to clean water because without water we will all die! The second one is all children have the right to an education. Everyone needs schooling to thrive. My third one is all children have the right to health care because if Canadian children get good health care, every child should. Did you know about every 19 seconds a mother in a developing country loses one of their children?

  3. Children’s rights are important to me, but these three are most important to me Firstly, all children have the right to healthy food. After the earth quake in Haiti, some children were so hungry they ate mud pies, to fill there stomachs. Secondly, all children have the right to an education. Not all children get to go to school mostly girls in Africa. They usually have to walk around five hours there and back to get water. Thirdly, all children have the right to think for themselves. Say if you and your buddy were taking a vote and your buddy told you to vote for the one he voted for and it seems the vote won and maybe the wrong one was chosen. Did you know that there is a worm in Africa that lives in puddles and if you drink it crawls through your body, then out your ankle and then you passed away.

  4. All children have rights that are important, but I have three that stick out to me. All children have the right to think for themselves. This stands out to me because every child should be able to think for themselves, and not be told what to think. All children have the right to choose friends. This right stands out to me because we should be allowed to choose our friends, and not be put to hang-out with someone you don’t like. All children have the right to an education. This right stands out to me because all of us should be able to learn and be educated, and not be a child labourer. Did you know, girls in Africa, don’t get the right to an education, and spend 4-5 hours traveling to get water for their families?

  5. Childrens Rights.
I just want to say that I am going silent because I belive that childen have the right to an education. I am silent for those who can’t have a right to a home or safe water.

  6. Children’s Rights.

Firstly, I think that all children have the right to play and live free. Secondly, I also think that all children have the right to go to school and learn and get a scholar. Thirdly, another thing that all children have the right to do is to have medical care like medicine and hospitals ect… Did you know that 60% children under five are dying every hour, minute and day because they don’t have medical care or hospitals!

  7. All children’s rights are important, but a few stand out to me. Firstly, the right to an education. This one is important to me because every child deserves an education, if they don’t have one they won’t have a good and successful future as an adult. Tons of children in Canada and the US do not appreciate their education and don’t realize how lucky they are. My second is the right to health care. If they do not get proper health care that definitely affects the rest of your life because you may not have a rest of your life if you do not get health care! Our funds from “We AreSilent” are going towards health care in Sierra Leone, Africa. My last one is the right to think for yourself. I find this important because, everyone is different from each other, that’s what makes a person a person! Many people have their different thoughts and opinions, and many different people form this world, that’s why we need to be able to think for ourselves. Did you know, girls in Africa heave to travel five hours, or even more for water?

    Children’s Rights.
I just want to say that I am going silent because I belive that children have the right to an education. I am silent for those who can’t have a right to a home or safe water.

  9. The three most important children’s rights in my opinion. Firstly all children have the right to eat healthy food. All children need to eat healthy food because if they don’t their body will not get the vitamins and minerals their body needs. Secondly all children have a right to an education. All children have the right to an eucation because in order to have a successful future you need an education. Thirdly all children have the right to play. All children have the right to stay active and healthy. Did you know in Africa, children don’t get to play until their jobs are done

  10. Here are the top three rights that I think all children have. Firstly, all children have the right to be protected from child labour. This right applies to all people under the age of 18. A lot of children in Africa does not have this right met. Child labour can include working in mines. Secondly, children have the right to good quality health care, clean water, and nutritious food. Food and water is part of the basic need of human beings. If children are in school and they have no food and water, then they will not be able to perform properly. Without food and water a child’s body will not be able to develop properly. Thirdly, all children have the right to an education. Without an education most children will be more likely to not have a job. Most children would end up having a job that includes labour if they don’t have access to an education. Lastly, did you know that some people in Haiti have to walk at least five hours just to go to school?

  11. All children’s rights are inportant ,but in my opinion three stand out from the rest. Firstly, the right to play. This stands out because playing is a part of being a child. Secondly, the right to choose friends. This also stands out because the assigned friend might beat on the other. Lastly, the right to have a name and belong to a country. This stands out the most because I don’t want to be nameless or be everyones mail being sent around. Did you know that in Sierra Leone,Africa, people die unnecessarily because they don’t have basic health care.

  12. All children have a right to… (All children have a right to) an education. I think that children have the right to play. I think that children have the right to live and grow. Did you know in Africa’ children don’t get to eat in until their job’s are done. I feel uncomfortable when I think of it

  13. I think children’s rights are Important. One child right is all children should have food. Another is all children have the right to be cared for by their legal guardians. Finally all should be able to live and grow . In my opinion the most important child right is that children should not be hurt by others.

  14. All children’s right are important, but in my opinion three come more important to me. First, the right to go to an education is important to me because Education could change your life because you get a job and help your community. Second, the right to play is important to me because if you don’t play you won’t be active. You could even play with your friends. Last the right to be cared by your own parents. That’s important to me because everyone should have family around. Those are the three most important to me. Did you know those facts about children’s rights?

  15. All children’s rights are important, but these three stand out from the rest. All children have the right to eat healthy food. If you are not eating healthy food you can die of malnutrition. All children have the right to play. All children must stay active and playing is a great way to stay active. All children have the right to health care. If you are hurt you should have the right to a hospital. Did you know in Africa and other developing countries ever nineteen seconds a mother loses its baby.

  16. All children have a right to… (All children have a right to) an education. I think that children have the right to play. I think that children have the right to live and grow. Did you know in Africa’ children don’t get to eat in until their job’s are done. I feel uncomfortable when I think of it.

  17. All children have rights, but three stand out to me. Firstly, all children have the right to proper healthcare. Kids in Sierria Leone, Africa die every day from common illnesses. Secondly, all children have the right to never be hurt by others. Bullying and targeting can lead to self harm and suicide! Thirdly, all children have the right to an education. In some countrys only boys go to school. Did you know that 58% of children in Africa die of common illnesses?

  18. All children’s rights are important. I think the following three stand out. First, I think they have the right to eat heaithy food. second, that they have the right to go to school. third, that they have the right to choose friends. you know that in Sieira deane africa, mary children die decause they do not have access to good meadicae care.

  19. All children rights are inportant but in my opinion three stand from rest

All children have the right to play and they deserve to have toys. All childen have the right to eat heathy food and deserve to live and grow. All children have the right to be protected from war. did you know that in Sierra Leane, Africa many children die unnecessarily because they do not have access to basic water.
